Florida's aquaculture industry sells US$69 million worth of produce a year according to state agricultural officials. Although ornamentals made up the bulk of the revenue contributing $35.5 million, the state also farms turtles, alligators and aquatic plants.

The European Parliament has agreed operating rules for a 6.5 billion euro funding pot for EU fisheries. From 2014, the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) will fund EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) measures to make EU fisheries sustainable and develop aquaculture.
"The adoption of my report is a crucial step in protecting a European model of sustainable and competitive fishing", said rapporteur Alain Cadec (EPP, FR).

OriginOil, the water clean up specialist, is to establish a permanent technology showcase near California’s Salton Sea. The facility will be based at Aqua Farming Technology, a leader in sustainable fish farming since 1993 in California’s Coachella Valley.

“At Aqua Farming Tech, Rocky French operates a 120-acre model of sustainability,” said Riggs Eckelberry, CEO, OriginOil. “We’re honored that he’s working closely with us to set up a permanent showcase within driving distance of our headquarters in Los Angeles.”
