Arctia Shipping, the Finland-based global leader in icebreaking and Arctic operations, has become a member of the World Ocean Council (WOC).

With its headquarters in Finland, Arctia brings extensive maritime experience and expertise in ice and Arctic operations to the WOC and adds significantly to the number of important firms with Arctic activities distinguishing themselves as members of the WOC.

Arctia Shipping’s CEO, Tero Vauraste, commented, “Arctia is pleased to become a member of the World Ocean Council, which provides an important global business leadership alliance on ocean sustainability, science and stewardship. With the increased level of economic activity in the Arctic region, it is critical for ocean companies to collaborate in ensuring that the growing industry operations in ice and Arctic conditions are safe and responsible.”

WOC CEO, Paul Holthus added, “The World Ocean Council is extremely pleased to welcome Arctia to our growing ocean business leadership alliance and, especially, to our continued efforts to develop the multi-industry Arctic Business Leadership Council”.

About Arctia Shipping
Arctia owns and operates the Finnish icebreaker fleet. With over 100 years of icebreaking and ice management know-how, the company keeps the winter passage open to and from Finnish ports. In summer months, Arctia’s multipurpose icebreakers work Arctic waters to ensure safe operations in the offshore oil and gas fields. The company’s vessels provide icebreaking services (icebreaking, infrastructure services, oil spill response, time charter) and offshore services (underwater construction, support services, "ice management", ploughing, lifting, towing).
