-->The rapid expansion of the salmon industry and the new aquaculture hub near Strachan, Tasmania, Australia should create job opportunities for many of the miners affected by the mine's closure.

That's the view of Adam Main, CEO of the Tasmanian Salmonid Growers Association who adds that talks are underway to try and place sacked Mount Lyell mineworkers into the salmon industry.

"The Aquaculture hub should be completed by August and that will open up a number of opportunities and we have a lot of infrastructure plans and we can now hold strategy meetings to see if some of those big projects can begin earlier," Mr Main says.
The Aquaculture hub will see the three big salmon companies work in a purpose built area and could mean hundreds of extra jobs.

"I don't know how many extra jobs can be created at this stage, but we have projects on the water and on land and an area which could be used by a number of businesses to create more jobs," according to Adam Main.
