The Tsukiji Fish Market, located in central Tokyo, Japan is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world. Handling over half-a-million tonnes of seafood every year and generating more than US$20 billion, the market is a famous landmark in the capital and has stood in the same location for eight decades.
However, due to Tokyo's ever-increasing crowds and congestion, there are plans to move the market out of the centre of the city to a new site on a manufactured island in Tokyo bay.
