Mr Malmqvist joins the existing board of five Trustees who include Cliff Spencer, his wife Janice Spencer, Roger Gilbert and Tuti Tan of International Aquafeed and Milling and Grain magazines and Simon Birks of Sherbornes Solicitors.

“We extend a warm welcome to Mr Malmqvist and look forward to his participation in the UK organisation
,” says Cliff Spencer, chairman of the UK AwF and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Biotechnology Transfer Foundation (a United Nations Foundation supported organisation) and who is also Goodwill Ambassador of the African Union with special responsibility for the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) which currently works in 53 of the 54 African countries.

"In brief the objects of the charity is the prevention and alleviation of poverty, financial hardship and malnutrition and enhancing food security through promoting sustainable aquaculture and collaborating with like-minded organisations,” says Mr Spencer.

“There are currently three independent, legally-separate AwF charities worldwide, with one based in the USA, another in Australia and now our new one in the UK. I understand more AwF organisations are currently being planned in Mexico, South Korea and South America.

“Although our organisations are legally separate they run under a common name and branding and voluntarily work together,” adds Mr Spencer.
