At the Offshore Arabia Conference on 17-18 May, the Dubai Council on Marine and Maritime Industries (DCMMI) and the World Ocean Council (WOC) agreed to collaborate on ocean sustainable development and Corporate Ocean Responsibility.

In the presence of the Dubai Minister of Climate Change and Environment, H.E. Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, the DCMMI Chairman, HE Mr Khamis Juma Buamim, and WOC CEO, Paul Holthus, signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the conference opening ceremony.

DCMMI Chairman, Mr Khamis Juma Buamim, stated that, “The World Ocean Council is a unique global business leadership organization committed to advancing ocean sustainable development, stewardship and science. The DCMMI looks forward to enhanced interaction with the WOC to bring together Dubai’s marine and maritime industry leaders to develop and promote business opportunities in support of responsible ocean economic activity.”

WOC CEO, Paul Holthus, added that, “We are excited to establish this agreement with DCMMI. We look forward to working with DCMMI to better engage leadership companies from Dubai and the UAE. Advancing coordinated, international efforts by the ocean business community to tackle sustainable development challenges is especially critical in this region of global importance to the economy.”

The WOC is increasingly working with and though 'maritime clusters' to advance ocean sustainable development and Corporate Ocean Responsibility.

The 2016 Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS), Rotterdam, 30 November-2 December, will have a major focus on maritime clusters and their role in ocean sustainable development, especially in relation to innovation, technology, cross-sectoral collaboration and investment.

More detailed information on the SOS 2016 and a Call for Abstracts will be available soon.
