'Profitability, Sustainability, and Responsibility for the Future' was the focal topic of Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2016.
Some 200 experts in aquaculture met to exchange scientific experiences and knowledge in Surabaya, Indonesia, from 26th – 29th April.
Dr Andreas Lewke and Dr Ekachai Jenwitheesuk presented two pioneering concepts for a profitable and sustainable aquaculture:
In his lecture 'Soluble acidifiers in a shrimp (L vannamei) trial', Dr Lewke summarised the results from a feeding trial carried out over eight weeks with Pacific White Shrimp in three different weight classes.
Dr Eckel continually carries out research to ensure the optimal use of its CaPlus-product line (organic acidifiers) in shrimp production. To guarantee scientifically sound trial results, the aquarium trial unit for controlled feeding experiments, located at the company’s headquarters in Niederzissen, was converted to the husbandry of shrimp.
In his presentation, 'Hello Pond – Trialling a flavonoid product for shrimp (L vannamei) under practical farm conditions,' Dr Jenwitheesuk gave insights into the method of action and the benefits of flavonoids in shrimp-feeding (L vannamei).
The excellent trial results were from a pond trial under realistic production conditions. The survival rate of shrimp in the Anta®Ox group was 91 percent, compared to 63 percent in the control group. Besides a higher yield, the results also show an improved feed conversion, thus leading to an increased profitability.
