GSSI's four week public consultation is currently underway, from 8 March to 5 April 2016, on the GSSI Benchmark Report for the Alaska RFM program owned by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.

Alaska RFM applied for GSSI recognition and has been benchmarked against the GSSI Global Benchmark Tool on: Section A (Governance), Section B (Operational Management) and Section D (Fisheries).

GSSI’s Benchmark Committee recommends Alaska RFM to be GSSI recognized, after the Independent Experts found Alaska RFM to be in alignment with all GSSI Essential Components, as outlined in the Executive Summary and the GSSI Benchmark Report.

GSSI invites comments on the outcome of the Benchmark Process, which in the past months has involved: Alaska RFM, Steering Board Liaison, Independent Experts and Benchmark Committee Members.

How to submit your comments:
  • Download executive summary of the GSSI benchmark report for Alaska RFM HERE
  • Download GSSI benchmark report for Alaska RFM program (Excel file)HERE
  • Insert comments in the very right side column of the Excel file (titled 'Step 5: Public consultation') and add your name
  • Return the Excel file and any additional comments you may have by 5 April 2016 to secretariat@ourgssi.org
About the GSSI Benchmark Process
Seafood certification schemes go through a 7-step Benchmark Process to be recognised by GSSI. The expert-led process involves objective assessments made against the Benchmark Framework. The process has been designed to be independent, impartial and transparent. Once a seafood certification scheme has gone through the Benchmark Process and is found in alignment with all GSSI Essential Components it will be publicly recognised by GSSI. GSSI will then publish a statement and a Benchmark Report on their websiteHERE.
