FAO is working with rice farmers in northern Vietnam to generate new sources of income.
This case study looks at one family who, with help from FAO, have split their rice farm into three parts. One section remains a rice paddy but the other parts have been turned into a fruit farm and aquaculture pond.
The family has benefited from a more varied diet and has generated extra income by selling excess food.
This money has been reinvested into other farm animals including a cow, pigs and chickens.
The system has been so successful, that other families in the region have adopted similar methods.
