For the first time such a large delegation from Poland - 25 delegates, are meeting in Trondheim during Aqua Nor. Among them there are experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and from the administrative bodies for financial support as well as fish breeders (Polish Trout Breeders Association) and private investors.
Poland is one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. Despite external headwinds, Poland’s real GDP growth was strong 3,4 per cent in 2014 and is expected to increase by 3.5 per cent in 2015.
Poland has also developed a large scale processing of fish and has been the largest export market for Norwegian Seafood. Seafood exports to Poland increased by 10 per cent in 2014. An increasing demand for fish products makes the country interesting consumer market.
Recently Poland has also started developing intensive land-based aquaculture. Several investors launched new businesses in the field of controlled breeding of marine or freshwater fish in the indoor RAS technology (trout, sturgeon, salmon, tilapia, and barramundi).
The newly established European Fisheries Fund (EFF) for projects in Poland allocated an amount of 734 million EUR in the period until 2020.
This fund launches new financial instruments for projects within aquaculture. The main objective of the Polish visit to AquaNor is to learn about innovation, to get acquainted with the latest technologies, processes and services related to the fish farming and to find partners for cooperation.
The following areas are of the greatest interest for Poland:
- Genetics and biotechnology
- Comprehensive installation for fish farming in closed water systems RAS
- Water treatment and reduction of environmental impact
