25/03/2015: Japanese aquarium suffers mass die-off

Today, just one fish remains in the tuna tank at Tokyo Sea life Park, The Hindustan Times reports. The body of its last companion was found floating in the huge enclosure on Tuesday, the latest victim in a whodunnit of unprecedented size.
 
The 2200-tonne tank was once home to nearly 160 fish, but in December the population dropped off dramatically. By mid-January just 30 fish were left.


An investigation is under way, a spokesman said, but despite looking at a range of possible causes – including lighting or even toxins in the water – staff are still looking for answers.


Some of the dead fish had been found to be harboring a virus, but not a species that is usually a killer under such circumstances.
